When we think of CCTV we usually think only of the security aspect, perhaps with a bit of monitoring thrown in - checking the still life that is some assistant's desk. But it's more than that. Mark Chertkow writes that CCTV is a performance management and productivity tool too. Security cameras and remote monitoring solutions have a use that extends beyond security and theft prevention - even, for example, helping to prevent injuries by checking that workers in dangerous environments are following correct procedures, for instance. On the home front, Jed Hewson reckons it makes sense to look at moving call centre agents back home in a phenomenon known by some as "homeshoring". Out of Africa... a security event held last week in Kenya has relevance for us here - not only in government, but also in business, be you a retailer, marketing company, or whatever. Governmental IT organisations need to improve their operations and service delivery capabilities to citizens.
