Western Cape retail IT chain uses online reputation management to push its products

Chaos Computers, with 7 stores around Cape Town, is using online reputation management (ORM) tools to link trending topics with their festive season promotion: the Chaos Candystore Competition: One Sweet Deal A Day.
Until now Chaos Computers have relied heavily on traditional advertising. Chaos recently went live with their new website (check it out here), courtesy of digital marketing agency World Wide Creative. The Western Cape retail chain is now using social media to attract customers to their online community. Until Christmas, the Chaos and World Wide Creative marketing teams will meet daily to weigh up breaking news, memes, trending stories and buzz themes. Topics are picked up using tools like TweetDeck, BrandsEye and Google Trends. The most popular topic of the day is then converted into a smart, focused advert and linked to the sweet deal of the daily promotion. For example, the first 'sweet deal' poked fun at the Cell C / Nandos advertising campaign, and the second deal took advantage of all the hype around WikiLeaks - offering a deal on Kaspersky anti-virus software.

In order to participate in the Candystore Competition consumers need to sign up for the newsletter and follow Chaos on Facebook. Entrants then stand a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Riaan Swart, CEO of Chaos explains: "We like to be a little different at Chaos, trying new things and innovating all the time. Even the prize, a Galaxy Tab, is a refreshing change to the hundreds of Apple iPads on offer in every second promotion being run right now."

The Chaos Computers brand identity

The Chaos brand, crafted by Switch Branding & Design, is closely related to the feeling of being like a kid in a candystore, with stores and promotional materials adorned lovingly with images of sweets and candy. The 'sweet deal a day' products will have up to 80% discounts on some of them, so even if consumers don't win the prize the deals will satisfy their appetite for sugary bargains .
