Gloo rocks Loeries 2009

The Glooniverse was in full celebration this weekend, starting at Thursday's battle of the bands. The Gloonies belted out an original tribute to Michael Jackson, but with a twist. A hardcore pop remix of ‘Beat it' saw a split decision from the judges, with Gloo taking second place and saving the winning for Saturday night's digital awards.

Another power performance at the awards, taking home nine statues and leaving the digital agency at the top of its industry ranking. The Creative Circle's complete national agency review placed Gloo number five in the country compared to all creative agencies across the marketing spectrum.

Gloo won the only Gold Craft Award for the fourth year in a row, as well as the only two golds awarded across the online categories. On top of this, Gloo took home two additional ‘best of show' prizes for best use of mobile and best use of online advertising. Award-winning work was created for PUMA, MWEB, Cell C and Wicked Pixels, as well as self-promotional work.

This brings Gloo's tally to an impressive 43 Loeries, including two Grand Prix, over the past four-and-a-half years.

Brett Bellinger, PUMA's Marketing Director, commented: "PUMA always tries to push the boundaries in terms of creative and innovative ideas, especially in new media, and Gloo has certainly helped our brand achieve this here in South Africa. We are very proud of the Loerie won for the Tetralift mobile game and PUMA international has also acknowledged the great work done by our local agency."

From an industry point of view, the weekend included the first digital get-together in Camps Bay on the Saturday morning and the largest attendance to the awards from our community to date, which is a great sign of the increasing importance of digital in general and to the growth of our community."
