    Networking, a necessity for property agents

    Property professionals have the opportunity to sell what rates amongst a buyer's most prized possessions, a home. Along with the home, the buyer also buys a haven of security, happiness and peace of mind, which requires a significant degree of trust, as well as a good rapport between the seller and buyer.

    It is therefore critical that property professionals are equipped with a zeal for people, cutting-edge methodology and a growing database of good contacts to be able to thrive in this competitive business.

    Networking remains a must amongst focussed business and career people alike. Instead of rote learning, networking should be a natural progression of a connection between like-minded individuals who wish to share relevant information. Therefore, if you're in doubt about how to start, seize opportunities to hand out your business card and to really connect with the recipient(s).

    A platform for collaboration

    Val Kritzinger, general manager of Fine & Country Realty SA, says you can't meet people and build relationships without networking and communication. Knowledge is indeed power, therefore networking is necessary for the exchange of information, and it also provides a much-needed platform to nurture a culture of collaboration.

    Kritzinger also cautions against ills like unhealthy competition that could thwart collaboration amongst property professionals. "Networking has the additional platform of social media that enables one to establish contacts around the world, a big plus. As much as this excites me, I'm still partial to the immense value of face-to-face interaction with people."
