'Clean, Clean, Clean' this Mandela Day

Still wondering how to spend 67 minutes this Friday? Why not join the Hennops River clean-up.
'Clean, Clean, Clean' this Mandela Day

A group of young, keen environmental leaders from Centurion are inviting the public to join them in an initiative to clean up a stretch of the Hennops River on Friday, 18 July 2014 in memory of the late Nelson Mandela. The event will take place from 11am till sunset.

Many areas of the river need urgent attention, but with many hands makes light work

"We are calling on all members of the local community to join us and spend just 67 minutes as their contribution to making a difference. We have arranged three different loops around the Hennops River and Centurion Lake, with each loop taking 67 minutes to complete," says Team Leader Ian Dennis.

Project Manager Sean Hide says, "There are many areas of this river that need some urgent attention, that with many hands makes light work, and we ask the local community to take some time out for Mandela. Our president has also called for all of us to 'Clean, Clean, Clean!'"

These young climate leaders were trained by Al Gore and his organisation, Climate Reality Project in March 2014. The organisations aims to create global awareness about the effects of climate change, as well as real world solutions to the impact we have on it. Participants in the clean-up are invited to speak to any of the climate leaders on the day about taking part of an actionable climate change solution.

Registration desks for the Hennops River clean-up will be near the Centurion Lake Hotel and Protea Hotel Waterfront. Each registered participant will receive a voucher for a free action sports game at the Centurion Action Sports Arena. SAP and Monitor Net will be patrolling the area ensuring safety and peace of mind for all participants. Anybody interested should bring gum boots and gloves and be ready to get their hands dirty for a good cause! Materials and refreshments will be on sale throughout the day.

"We really look forward to the public joining us in our first community initiative and to doing our bit for Mandela Day," says Dennis.
