SA 2015 maize output up 1.1% to 9.83m tons

SA's maize output has been finalised at 9.941-million tons in 2015, up 1.1% from last month's estimate.

In its final estimate report for the year, the crop estimates committee said the pace of South African Grain Information Services deliveries showed signaled a bigger crop.

The forecast for white maize edged up 1.1% to 4.720-million tons while that of the yellow variety edged up 1% to 5.238-million tons.

The production estimate for sunflowers rose 0.60% to 660,900 tons while that of soybeans lifted 1.8% to record 1.059-million tons.

Meanwhile, the production estimate for wheat in 2015 dropped 3.3% to 1.635-million tons compared with last year.
