The winner of the new category will be awarded for best equity research and best non-equity research.

Previously called Ranking the Analyst, the Top Analyst Awards are known as the 'Oscars' of the financial industry and is sponsored by INET BFA, in partnership with research company Intellidex. Winners are awarded according to various measurement criteria and the awards have become the benchmark of South Africa's leading assessment of institutional stockbrokers.

"The research has become a benchmark of excellent in the financial industry, and we hope and trust it helps improve transparency and understanding of financial analysis," says Financial Mail editor Tim Cohen.

Industry of giants

The new Top Young Analyst category was introduced to recognise and award analysts under the age of 30. The introduction of the new category will allow young up and coming stars to be noticed in an industry of giants and highly experienced professionals.

"We are excited about the new category and that we can assist towards creating a platform to profile up and coming talent, and be part of the Young Analysts' journey towards becoming the investment leaders of the future," says Andrew Philbrick, CEO of INET BFA.

A new ranking system will be introduced this year into the corporate access section and will see a total of 44 research sectors awarded as well as the highly coveted overall Top Analyst of the Year.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Inanda Club in Sandton on 27 May 2015.
