RIP Karl Lagerfeld | Packaging trendsIn top news this week, talented fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died. Filling the role of creative director at Chanel for 36 years, he will be succeeded by his closest collaborator, Virginie Viard. In packaging news, Stratcom Branding's Gail Macleod shares 5 trends R&D managers should watch out for in 2019. And the Oolala Collection Club's Daniella Shapiro poses the question " Is your product packaging the 'whole package'?" Then, in the 2019 Budget Speech delivered by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, it was announced that sin taxes on alcohol and tobacco will rise by the above-inflation rate of between 7.4% and 9%. And Flux Trends analyst Bronwyn Williams lists some naughty and nice living treats set to trend in 2019, while The Fry Family Food Co.'s Tammy Fry unpacks the growing popularity of plant-based diets in South Africa. To end off, I list some of our favourite food and beverage products to hit the shelves in #FreshOnTheShelf. Until next week!
