Daniel Baron

His smash hit Children Of The Sun broke records and debuted on the 5FM Top 30 chart at the number one position. Daniel's voice and sound carry a distinctive flair and he is known for crossing over genres with an array of electro-infused pop-dance tunes.

I caught up with him last week as we journey into 2018.

What does music mean to you?

Music is a miracle to me. I don’t completely understand it, but I know what it is capable of and I’ve witnessed that its powerful enough to put a smile on someone’s face or make a bored audience lift their feet off the ground and dance, or inspire a suicidal teenager to keep living and follow their dreams. Music is a gift from God.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your work?

I love and cherish the moment when a song is born, and then it’s an even greater joy to witness how my music resonates with people.

What drives you: Ego or humility?

Humility is one of the most beautiful and powerful values that a human can possess. I love humility.

Any funny moments on stage?

Among many strange and funny occurrences, I’ve experienced a lady climb on stage while I was performing and she ran past me and kissed my drummer, during the show.

What is your most treasured possession?

I treasure my piano. It’s a 60-year-old Yamaha that was given to me by my grandpa. I’ve written over 300 songs on it.

It’s your round, what are you drinking?

I enjoy a good bottle of red wine. Or if it’s a celebration, some real Mexican tequila. But then again, I'll drink anything ;)

What makes you stand out?

I don’t box myself into genres. I write music. I produce music. I sing, I play four instruments. I don’t just make music to entertain; I make music to inspire the world and to spread love. I can’t dance.

Nicknames?

DB. Dan. Danny. Deeniel. Derek.

If you were not a musician what would you do?

I would work as a sound engineer, a stagehand or a roadie. Anything related to showbiz. I'd even be the guy that sweeps the stage after the show.

Pick five words to describe yourself?

Patient, humorous, crazy, generous, compassionate.

What is your favourite word?

It changes regularly. Right now it is between: ‘bliksem’ and ‘situation’.

Give us some real proper slang and what it means

'Lets klup that kick out of the last hook and smash it back in on the second beat with a massive swoosh and reverse vox verb.' (It’s studio/music lingo/slang of me giving the order or suggestion to remove a bass drum beat when the final chorus happens, and then bring the beat back on the second beat of the first bar on the chorus, but with the additional massive cymbal sound and a reversed reverberated vocal sound effect).

What do you complain about most often?

When I hear a bad song.

On stage, I tend to?

Sweat a lot.

Wishes and dreams for 2018?

I would like to achieve something on an international level this year.
