[Nina Timm] Everybody has an icon or hero; we have just survived the Justin Bieber tsunami and, for we old rockers, Bon Jovi brought new life to our nine-to-five exsistence. Middle-aged people stood in queues remembering days when life was carefree and wild. Burger King just landed in South Africa and everyone rushed off to sink their teeth into a giant Whoopie Burger.
[Nina Timm] Chocolate and Easter go hand-in-hand and magazines, food blogs and websites are bursting out of their seams with recipes containing the four basic food groups: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and chocolate truffles.
[Nina Timm] Home-made yoghurt - why would anyone want to make it if the shelves are filled with all sorts of yoghurt? Low-fat, full cream, low sugar, real fruit, flavoured - phew, the choices are endless.
[Nina Timm] Goat's cheese is my new favourite ingredient. These tasty tarts not only require very little baking, but they are also gluten-free, which to me makes this a winning recipe.
[Nina Timm] The older I get the more I think that this Valentine's Day thing is just a commercial trick to get us all to spend money on things we would normally just walk past. Yet, on the other hand, I remember Valentine's Day at varsity and the whole of Stellenbosch just being one big mass of flowers and giggling students. So call me a sucker for love, but maybe forcing us all to be a little mushy one day of the year is not too bad, is it?

[Nina Timm] Your fruit cake should have been baked by now and you should be feeding it with brandy every week! Well, maybe if you were Julia Child or your great granny, yes, but hey, we live in the real world, which is pretty hurried and fast at the moment. With this easy fruit cake recipe, you can make your fruit cake with not much effort and with a drizzle of your favourite brandy every week or so, your fruit cake will be perfect by Christmas!
[Nina Timm] This Mexican Family Feast was my meal choice when I heard that I was a contestant and had to cook in the new cooking/blogging series called Dinner Divas. Why Mexican? It's simple, we love it!
[Nina Timm] Ice cream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! A refrain I remember from my childhood, but literally the case for the past two days that have shocked us into summer mode far too quickly. I said to someone just last week, that I am definitely not souped or stewed out yet, so if I had a say in the matter summer could be delayed for just a while longer.
[Nina Timm] Yes, spring is finally here and it is wonderful to be woken up by the birds every morning. It is not quite light when I wake up (5-ish) so my early-morning coffee in the garden will still have to wait for another week or so, but, nevertheless, it is time to spring-clean the house, body and soul.
