The beauty of Decorex

[Jordan Scott] This was the 15th year that Decorex has graced the Mother City. It was originally started by Nicola Hadfield with a mere R800, who has now founded the A Beautiful Day exhibition. Decorex was taken over by the Thebe Exhibition and Project Group and it has done a sterling job in keeping it innovative and exciting for those attending.

Atelier AHA launches

[Jordan Scott] In the last few years we have watched Woodstock bloom into a creative space that is full of interesting and intriguing spaces. This week another has been added to the mix - Atelier AHA. This New York-style warehouse is situated in the heart of trendy Woodstock and has been converted into a creative space, but not for one specific purpose, it has been created to house all artistic disciplines.

Made To Fly Met

[Jordan Scott] This is the 36th year that J&B has sponsored The Met. The theme "Made To Fly" was actually based around the idea of "Made To Succeed", which J&B felt they have done over and over again. The race used to be run on Green Point common; British soldiers attached to the Cape Garrison would race and the ladies in all their attire would watch and cheer them on. Although not British, the jockeys of the 2013 Met are certainly soldiers and many ladies were in their very best - and the cheering was mind-blowing.

The Castle Cape Town Tens

[Jordan Scott] This year will celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Castle Cape Town Tens and it promises to be bigger and better than any previous year. For those of you who don't know, the Castle Cape Town Tens is the world's biggest Tens tournament - and who wouldn't want to be part of that?

Cape Town Festival of Beer: Blogger challenge

[Jordan Scott] In the build-up to The Cape Town Festival of Beer (23 to 25 November) 10 bloggers received home-brewing kits from Keg King to begin their blogger brew master competition. Although the brewing kit comes with all the necessary instructions some went off the beaten track and decided to get creative. Almond was added, coriander, orange peel, various fruits and it is still under debate whether or not bubble gum was added to one blogger's brew.

Siv Ngesi - Race Card

[Jordan Scott] Two years ago, when I first started writing for BizCommunity, I had the opportunity to see Siv Ngesi live; this was back when not many people knew who he was and I had no idea how to write a review. But now, two years later, he has his very own show playing for two weeks at the Baxter Theatre and I'm a little bit better at writing reviews. (Well I hope so.)

Nando's Comedy Festival

[Jordan Scott] I am actually very glad that I went on the last night, because if I had gone before I would have gone out and bought another ticket - and perhaps another one. At first the names didn't ring any bells and I will admit I thought it was an "open mike" night. But little did I know that I was about to see some of the funniest comedians to date. If I listed the names with no explanation they wouldn't mean much to most, so let me explain exactly who I had the privilege of seeing.

Disney on Ice presents Worlds Of Fantasy

[Jordan Scott] We all had our favourite Disney characters when we were younger and, even now, when a child is watching it on television we can't help but stop and reminisce for a few minutes. Well Disney on Ice and the CTICC have brought these characters to life. I know it's meant for children, but there's definitely something in it for the adults as well. There's something magical about the nostalgia that it summons in us.

Gary Leih on the changing role of digital

[Jordan Scott] Before we move any further there is something that must be said, and it's this: The presentation from Gary Leih is perhaps mainly of interest to those within the marketing and advertising industry. However, in whatever sector of business you happen to be, digital will be a part of what you do, so it's as well to read Leih's views on the subject.
