Producing Lecturer

Afda, The School for the Creative Economy, is a leading private higher education institution offering fully accredited and registered undergraduate and postgraduate degrees as well as higher certificates which are outcomes-based. Applications are invited for the position of producing lecturer.

As the discipline lecturer for producing, Afda is looking for a committed and dedicated industry professional to lecture and provide support to undergraduate students. The position requires someone with drive and initiative who is able to motivate and teach students both the practical organisational skills required of a producer, but also the conceptual, creative and financial understanding to put together a production from scratch. The candidate needs to demonstrate a willingness to embrace Afda’s unique pedagogy which is the basis of the interdisciplinary teaching at Afda.

The teaching will comprise: 
  • Scheduling
  • Budgeting
  • Breaking down a script - translating concept into perceptual planning and concrete production realisation
  • Production management
  • Rights, rules, and regulations
  • Financing
  • Creative producing
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Set protocols
Key duties:
  • Lecturing film students
  • Planning and coordination of campus production festivals
  • Liaising with consortium, CLVA, and other stakeholders on experimental and graduation festivals
  • Coordinating project teams and workgroups for relevant years
  • Conducting student consultations and reflective meetings
  • Preparing content and lesson plans for each term
  • Assessment registration for the term’s assessments
  • Working with counterparts to ensure parity across all campuses on term outcomes
  • Attendance registers and class management administration
  • Timetable planning
  • Curriculum development
Requirements and personal attributes:
  • At least five years’ experience in the film and entertainment industry, and practical experience of producing in either film or television is a requirement
  • Relevant honours or master's degree in film and/or media studies with relevance to producing
  • Computer literacy
  • Highly developed organisational skills
  • Initiative

  • A meticulous and thorough nature
  • An ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
