Bieber fever hit South Africa hard last week as the 19-year-old Canadian performed live in Cape Town and Johannesburg with thousands of fans attending his concerts and screaming his name. I must confess that I am a bit relieved I missed it - not that I am a Bieber-hater or anything, but man alive, imagine seeing such fan-faces in real life! I would have nightmares for years to come.
Evert Lombaert reckons Twitter is
no place for SA Beliebers. Justin Bieber's presence in South Africa has revealed something conspicuous by its absence - SA Bieber fans largely seem to ignore Twitter as a platform. The Canadian popstar's name didn't seem to be trending at the time that he was here, but there were some speculations that Twitter removed
#justinbieber and
#bieber as trending topics because he had been trending for three months already. Well, it would be nice to get some concrete evidence of this, but nevertheless, one thing is sure - he most definitely trended everywhere else.
Apart from Bieber, Burger King has been on everyone's lips (literally and figuratively) as the US fast-food chain
opened its South African doors on 9 May 2013.
Other big news in the past week included the announcement of current affairs programme, 3rd Degree, coming to an end as
Debora Patta has decided to pursue other interests. The last episode will air tomorrow, 14 May 2013. We wish you well on your new venture, Debora.
