Robin Parker

Robin Parker has been journalist , marketing director, general manager and managing director of brands and companies across three continents in a media career spanning 35 years which includes spells at the Sunday Times, metropolitan and provincial newspapers, before jumping ship to the online world.

He was a founding director of iafrica.com as well as worldwide group head of media and marketing for the London-listed, African Lakes Corporation. His career included spells in the US, importing the VerticalNet platform into South Africa's online B2B environment, the development of the pan-African AfricaOnline brand out of Nairobi and the creation of the MiContent mobile brand.

He has followed ambulances, brought internet to far flung shumbas, lectured at university and spoken at international conferences, played many rounds of golf and enjoyed the odd amber nectar.

In between he had three children who now stay as far away from him as possible, hence a strong desire for travel. But he has become a hermit of Hout Bay now, after years of town and country hopping, but still delights in recalling the heady times of war coverage, Carnivore carousing, mad Egyptian nights and long strolls down the Embankment.

He serves on the Africa CMO Council, is listed as one of SA Top 100 marketers 2010, is listed in the Red Book of Marketers, is a Superbrands Council member. Awarded African Brand Evolution|Revolution Award for africa.bizcommunity.com.
