Daniel Dercksen

Since he launched The Writing Studio 17 years ago Daniel Dercksen has presented over 800 workshops in scriptwriting and creative writing throughout South Africa.
As a published playwright, writer and movie journalist, he is a qualified ETD Practitioner (Education, Training and Development) - accredited by SAQA (The South African Qualifications Authority) - working in accordance with the principles of the Department of Education and focusing on outcomes-based education, training and development.
Highlights during the period include a Master Class for Screenwriters for the Talent Campus at the Sithengi Film and TV Market in Cape Town in November 2006, the facilitation of 'Directing Actors' workshop with acclaimed actor Eriq Ebouaney; the launching of an evening course in scriptwriting at the City Varsity Film TV and Multimedia School in Cape Town; and workshops the Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre in Kwa Mashu as part of their annual Kwa Mashu Film Festival.
He has been actively involved in the workshops for writers and filmmakers at Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre at the annual Kwa Mashu Film Festival in Durban, and also presented a course for the Cape Film Commission at the Ikapa Youth Film Festival.

Having fallen madly in love with words and the art of creation since growing up in Benoni City Hall, this addiction is a life passion that is inspiring. I have been a trainer and educator of writers in creative writing and scriptwriting, aiming to inspire writers to write and turn words into action. Also educating writers in film and theatre. Have designed four courses/ workshops to help writers develop the write attitude: The Write Voice give writers an opportunity to flex their creative talent and find and explore their writer's voice; The Write Journey explores the writing process from inception to the writing of a screenplay, play or novel; The Write Draft takes writers through the process of completing a professional draft; The Write Characters focuses on the development of characters. These workshops are also done via correspondence. Also work as a script doctor reading and evaluating scripts, as well as The Write Trainer, to help writers stay focused and motivated.

SpecialtiesAs an active film and theatre journalist, and a passionate film and theatre buff, spend most of my time in the dark, watching words turned into action on stage or on film. Also addicted to TV series, particulalry BBC.
