As our HR family evolves, it is imperative for all of us to recognise that growth is often difficult – stepping out of one’s comfort zone to embrace the ‘new’ and the ‘better’ is often an arduous and taxing task. If, however, we all recognise that it is in fact a process, we are empowered to embrace our failures and short-comings as part of this seeking out of our ‘best selves’.
Acknowledgement and cognisance of the challenge ahead of us is the first step. We are human and will stumble along the way, but celebrating this humanity, and recognising that the effort itself is something to be appreciated, will lend to positivity, both in professional growth and in attitude.
Never neglect the ‘small wins’; never forget to stop and smell the roses, for it is in appreciating the incremental that we allow ourselves to understand the value of the journey in its entirety.
Our Brag Board is one such step in the right direction. A tangible timeline, illustrating growth, progress, appreciation, context and yes, passion. On this wall we highlight the progress we have made and the recognition from the business along the way – the ‘thank you’ emails and the communications that cement that we are going in the right direction, confirming that the long hours are paying off.
