Of leaders and legacies

As event architects, few things get our blood going quite like clients who like it when we think outside the box. It's always a challenge to take a pretty standard idea, turn it on its head, get the client to like it and then pull it off!
Deloitte recently gave us an incredible opportunity to have a lot of fun as well as build an interesting, different and very memorable event.

The idea was born out of a leadership change within Deloitte Consulting. The new management wanted to host their leadership team, managers and their spouses for a fun evening of appreciation. Sounds like a Gala Dinner right? Well we didn't think so.

Eventworx had a completely different idea: we decided to host a Live Talk Show, hosted by South African comedy giant John Vlismas and with his buy in, 'Vlismas means Business' was born. The theme for the event was 'Legacy of Greatness'.

With such a descriptive theme lending itself to diversity, John took the opportunity to host guests who have built their own legacies within the assorted landscapes of South Africa.

We started the evening's appreciation of legacies with two leaders from within Deloitte Consulting; these two guests gave some insight into their own personal experience and the Greatness of Deloitte Consulting as a business.

Our first famous guest's Legacy of Greatness was one built on the International Cricket Circuit. For a long time considered to be the finest fielder to have ever played the game, Jonty Rhodes is a global icon and a South African Sporting legend.

Our next guest built his legacy on the South African stage and television; an award winning actor, producer and director, Joe Mafela has worked tirelessly to build his legacy and was an incredibly interesting and engaging guest on 'Vlismas means Business'.

Our final guest's music spans decades and generations: PJ Powers has had an award- filled career and is a huge name in South Africa. John was his usual highly entertaining and unique self, giving everyone a once in a lifetime view into the extraordinary lives of great people, in addition to making sure that laughter was predominant throughout the evening.

PJ Powers closed the show by singing some of the hits that made her famous, giving the audience a glimpse into her talent and closing the evening's entertainment on a high, with the audience wanting more.

Through our creative concept and Deloitte's faith and trust in our abilities as Event Architects, we managed to build an exceptional evening's entertainment, judging from the appreciative audience and it is certainly another small building block in the construction of our own 'Legacy of Greatness'.
