Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented DTP Operator to join our print and packaging team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing customer artwork, creating print-ready files, conducting prepress checks, and ensuring all jobs meet production and quality standards before printing.

Key Responsibilities

Artwork Preparation



  • Prepare customer artwork for print production.
  • Create print-ready PDF files according to company specifications.

  • Amend and adjust customer artwork when required.

  • Ensure artwork complies with printing and packaging requirements.

Prepress

  • Perform preflight checks on all artwork before production.

  • Verify dimensions, bleed, die lines, colours, fonts, and image resolution.

  • Ensure files are correctly imposed where required.

  • Communicate artwork issues with relevant departments.

Quality Control

  • Check all artwork for accuracy before release.

  • Ensure colour consistency and correct file versions.

  • Minimise artwork errors that could affect production.

  • Maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.

Administration

  • Update job statuses on the production system.

  • Save and archive artwork correctly.

  • Maintain organised electronic job folders.

  • Ensure all required documentation accompanies each job.

Housekeeping

  • Keep workstations organised and tidy.

  • Ensure software and equipment are functioning correctly.

  • Follow company quality and safety procedures.

  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives.



Requirements

Minimum Requirements
  • Matric (Grade 12).

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a DTP Operator in the printing industry.

  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and other relevant design software.

  • Strong computer literacy.

  • Knowledge of prepress processes and print specifications.

  • Ability to work shifts, overtime, and weekends when required.

Technical Skills
  • Artwork preparation for commercial printing.

  • Creating print-ready PDF files.

  • Preflight and file checking.

  • Understanding of bleed, die lines, colour modes, fonts, and image resolution.

  • File imposition and packaging.

  • Electronic file management and archiving.

Personal Skills
  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Strong problem-solving ability.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Reliable and dependable.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
