Going organic - 20 Oct 2008

By Shan Radcliffe

If ever South Africa had an 'organic' capital, it would be the Mother City. Anyone I've ever spoken to about the differences between Cape Town and Jo'burg would agree, Capetonians are just a little more laid back and are more likely to stop and smell the flowers. Which is why, even on the opening Friday afternoon, the general consensus from the exhibitors at the Natural & Organic Show was that it was livelier than previous events. And the range of products on display was diverse to say the least - from organic pet food and herbal remedies, to so-called 'nutraceuticals', skin, hair and eye care products; from organically grown foods, wine and some esoteric music to set the mood, to e-commerce sites that will send you the said organic food and wine. So if any of this sounds appealing to those up-country looking to take a natural step out of the rat race for a day, you have the chance to 'get your organic on' next year in June when the Natural & Organic Show hits the Coca-Cola Dome. As they say, "Go organic or go home."
