The eighth annual Shoprite Checkers OFM Chip for Charity took place on Friday, 11 March at the Bloemfontein Golf Club and a whopping R114 000 was raised for charity. Beneficiaries for this year's event were Child Welfare Bloemfontein & Childline Free State and the Smile Foundation.

A whopping R114 000 was raised at this year’s Shoprite Checkers OFM Chip for Charity. Here Mr. Gary Stroebel from OFM and Mr. Jaco de Swardt from Shoprite Checkers handover the cheque to Ms. Rietha Wagenaar from Child Welfare Bloemfontein & Childline Free State and Ms. Michelle Gertz from the Smile Foundation.

The Mahareng Bunnies and their Hugh Hefner, Mr. Armand Potgieter added some colour to this year’s Shoprite Checkers Chip for Charity. They presented a waterhole on the 3rd at the Bloemfontein Golf Club.

Tim Thabethe and Andre Kunz from the Breakfast Club on OFM invited two listeners to play with them at the annual Shoprite Checkers OFM Chip for Charity. Here with the two presenters is Charl Van Staden and De Wet Van Wyk
More than 208 golfers participated in the sold out morning and afternoon fields. The format was a four ball alliance, with two scores to count. This year the event was sold out almost two months in advance.

There were 14 "Water Holes" along the course to cater to the hungry and thirsty, with various businesses vying against each other for a floating trophy and the title of best Water Hole. This year the trophy and title went to the team from Appletizer.

The highlight of the day is usually the prize giving, which is presented with lots of laughter, entertainment and an auction. For the past four years sponsors Shoprite Checkers and OFM have been competing against each other for golf dominance on the course. This year OFM again came out on top with the OFM men's team, comprising Gary Stroebel and Servaas de Kock, winning the floating trophy for the fourth consecutive year. The ladies trophy was won by the Shoprite Checkers ladies team consisting of Sonnet Rademeyer and Alicea Bothma.

During the auction, Andre Kunz, producer of the OFM Breakfast Club, rapped Vanilla Ice's popular Ice, Ice, Baby for R2 000. Other auction highlights ranged from a quad bike to a 42" inch flat screen with PVR and installation. Idols finalist Pieter West and local rock band Cable Cord entertained the crowd until late into the night.

Over the past seven years, this annual golf day has managed to raise over R750, 000.00 for charity. The day is a highlight on many corporate calendars and with more than R50 000 in prizes, it is definitely one of the most prestigious golf days in Bloemfontein.

On 15 April 2011 the second Shoprite Checkers OFM Chip for Charity in Kimberley will be presented. Interested parties can contact Jolanda Gerber at 051 5050900 to book their four ball.
