Old Cape Quarter refurbishment under way

De Waterkant's Old Cape Quarter in Cape Town is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment that will see it revitalised into a mixed-use hub including new retail and office spaces as well as 55 luxury apartments and penthouses.

Developed by Tower Property Fund and designed by dhk Architects, the redevelopment includes the partial demolition of the existing building to strengthen its structure and enable the insertion of a four-storey residential component. The new masonry building will feature punctured openings, steel balustrades and timber shutters with the penthouse level clad in Rheinzink. Each apartment will display clean, contemporary lines with floor-to-ceiling windows and timber flooring.

The central courtyard, which sits at the heart of the development, will be activated through the creation of a new green oasis with flanking and cascading planted terraces. A timber brise-soleil will hold the edge of the courtyard on the northern side while providing a visual barrier between public and private realms.
