Nominations open for 2009 SA Blog Awards

The South African Blog Awards are designed to showcase the very best of SA blogs. Nominations for the fifth annual awards are now open, and will close on 1 April 2009, so put your best blogs forward, now.

The awards aim to bring SA bloggers to the forefront of people's attention, both locally and internationally, and to increase exposure for SA's bloggers. Ultimately, the intention is to communicate with people not currently involved in blogging and encourage them, by example, to join in.

There are no new categories this year, but four previously featured no longer appear, namely: Best Web Site Promoting Blogging; Best Social Upliftment Blog; Best Undiscovered Blog; and Best Blog about the SA Blog Awards.

The nominations will fall into the following categories:

  • South African Blog of the Year
  • Best Entertainment Blog
  • Most Humorous South African Blog
  • Best Post on a South African Blog
  • Best Overseas South African Blog
  • Best Original Writing on a South African Blog
  • Best Blog About Politics
  • Best Photographic Blog
  • Best New Blog
  • Best Food and Wine Blog
  • Best Science and Technology Blog
  • Best Music Blog

  • Best Business Blog
  • Best Group Blog
  • Best Sports Blog
  • Best Green Blog
  • Best African Language Blog

The winners of the awards will be announced on 3 April. Last year's award winners were dominated by the traditional media with eight of the 22 awards being won by East Coast Radio, and the Mail & Guardian Online/Thoughtleader.
