Freelancers invited to SAFREA Gauteng AGM

The Gauteng branch of the Southern African Freelancers' Association (SAFREA) will hold its AGM at 5pm on Wednesday, 24 March 2010, at the private studio of Primi Piatti in The Zone, Rosebank. Media freelancers - such as writers, photographers, editors, proofreaders, graphic designers, illustrators, researchers, translators and other experts in communication who are not yet members - are welcome to attend.

Guest speaker

The guest speaker is Margaret Renn, Taco Kuiper Visiting Fellow in Investigative Journalism at the Department of Journalism, Wits University. In her 25 years of investigative journalism in the UK, Renn has worked with the British investigative journalist Paul Foot on his weekly column in the Daily Mirror and Rough Justice, the BBC's flagship investigative television programme, dedicated to uncovering injustices.

Before arriving in South Africa, she ran the Centre for Investigation Journalism at City University, London, which offers training in investigative journalism. She is also the co-author of Margaret Thatcher, a Bad Case of the Blues, published in 1984. Renn joined the department as a senior fellow in January 2009.
