Cotton workers harvest more cash

The SA Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU) has settled its national wage dispute in the cotton textile sector, the union said on Tuesday (6 August).

"The settlement provides for a 7% wage increase, backdated to July this year," SACTWU's chief negotiator Bonita Loubser said.

The settlement was reached last week with the SA Cotton and Textile Processing Employers' Association, after two rounds of compulsory conciliation, under the auspices of the National Textile Bargaining Council.

The agreement will benefit about 7,000 cotton textile workers in 65 factories.
