20% of SA coastline under development

20% of South Africa's coastline in under some form of development. This is according to the recently released Life: The State of South Africa's Biodiversity 2012 report. The report will be used to guide policymakers and managers, says IOL.

The report says that the effects of the severe pressure on the coast and marine ecosystems are "as damaging and irreversible as ploughing up grasslands." IOL takes a glance at what the report reveals.
