Report and funding and sponsorship campaign

The aim and vision of the competition is to keep youth active and off the streets, to promote and develop the sports participation in the community and to create a great talent site for young talent scouts. This is a developing area where even electricity has just been provided. Soccer unifies, entertains and socializes communities. With the FIFA World Cup 2010 approaching, it is essential to be able to play a role in the promotion and development of this sport in all parts of the country, South Africa, including even the remote rural areas like this. We all have to look beyond 2010. We have to make it possible for some young kids to dream to play professionally by enhancing the competition to attract top talent scouts.

The tournament was established in December 2006 and has since been an annual event. Overall the competition has always been very successful in terms of management and logistics. It has also attracted a lot of interest from the community in general from surrounding areas. The founding members of the tournament's organizing committee did not see the lack of sponsorship and funding as a constraint in starting this tournament. They originally depended purely on clubs' joining fees to finance the competitions' prizes which made it impossible to reward clubs eliminated too early in the competition.

The tournament continues to grow from strength to strength, getting more recognition and credibility. Historically the Okhahlamba Local Municipality has always been there for support and we believe they will continue to associate themselves with this growing brand. We are certainly very proud of Okhahlamba Municipality for their community upliftment initiatives. We know that the mandate to support the tournament was authorized in the highest hierarchy within the municipality.

There are also Bergville local businesses that have supported the tournament, namely: Bergville Spar Supermarket, Ferreira Butchery, Beauty House and Mlambonja.

The tournament was even bigger than the last and will continue to grow in leaps and bounds from strength to strength and we all know that without sizeable sponsorships such growth is just a dream.

We also like to thank all clubs that participated and would like to urge them to come back during 2008 and join early to avoid disappointment. We would encourage the clubs that came late to arrange earlier to come and be part of history, as the tournament is bound for success.

Last but not least, the supporters, the fans, the traders. Thank you all for your support. The journey has just begun and we would all like to be part of it until the final destination.
