Number of SA taxpayers up 24%
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan said 3.4m taxpayers have filed their annual income tax returns for the 2011-12 tax year.
He said in his medium-term budget policy statement there had been an increase of 24% in the number of taxpayers filing their returns since the start of the tax season this year‚ compared with the same period last year.
The number of registered individual taxpayers had increased to 13.7m this year‚ with individuals contributing 33.8% through personal income tax to the fiscus.
Gordhan said a growing number of taxpayers were submitting their returns using the latest computer technology introduced this year.
