Kumba Iron Ore has suspended production at Sishen Mine where about 300 striking employees are blocking access to the pit.
The mine has obtained a court order declaring the strike illegal‚ the company said on Thursday afternoon.
Efforts to try and engage the strikers are continuing and the company is supplying them with food and water‚ it said.
The strike started last Wednesday but in the absence of a formal engagement process their demands are still not clear‚ Kumba said.
The strike is being handled in line with the company´s labour relations procedures‚ with due consideration to the safety of the majority of those workers who are not taking part in the illegal action and who wish to return to work‚ it added.
The mine employs approximately 12‚700 workers.
Kumba has sufficient production from its other mines and stockpiles of finished product to continue supplying its customers says it is in constant contact with its stakeholders to update them on developments.
