Reserve Bank appoints Anthony Chait to its board

The Reserve Bank on Friday, 27 July 2012, announced the appointment of investment consultant Anthony Chait as a new director to its board. He will replace Stephen Goodson‚ who resigned in May.

Goodson is a controversial figure‚ best known as the founder of the Abolition of Income Tax and Usury Party. He has also been criticised for his views on Nazism and Libya.

Governor Gill Marcus said Chait‚ a chartered accountant‚ would hold the commerce and finance directorship.

Chait currently runs niche tax and exchange control consultancy Zeridium‚ which he founded in 2003.

He is also a nonexecutive director of the recently listed Annuity Properties Limited.

The Reserve Bank received 70 nominations for the position‚ which closed in April.

Three candidates were short-listed by a panel and the Bank's shareholders elected Chait at the Bank's ordinary general meeting on Friday.

He will work with subsidiaries of the Reserve Bank‚ including the South African Bank Note Company and the South African Mint Company.
