Nick Chaloner, Director of Communications of SA Breweries, in a Wall Street Transcript interview.
We have got something like 120 brands in the company across the whole group and some of these are very strong regional brands. Our Castle Lager brand is actually one of the ninth biggest brands in the world, but its primarily consumed in Africa. In China one of the very big brands we have now is called Snowflake, but you have probably never have heard of it. These are big brands in their markets and in their own countries. So what we find is that beer brands are actually very regional, local things. People are very attached to their familiar beer brand. They like its taste, they like its looks and so on. So in a sense that's what we are finding in most of the market places --that strong local brands and a strong local portfolio of brands are the way to grow volumes, but equally there is a market for international premium beers and that's where we use the Pilsner Urquell brand.
