A wage dispute in the worsted textiles sector was declared on Monday, 18 June 2012, by the SA Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (Sactwu).
Spokesman Andre Kriel said the move followed three rounds of failed negotiations.
When the latest talks ended, employers in the sector were offering a 6.25% wage increase, while the trade union wanted 8.5%. The union had referred the dispute for conciliation.
Kriel said if this did not yield a settlement, the union intended balloting its members for strike action.
Sactwu said wage increases in the sector were due on 1 July.
