Spike in protest action over service delivery

Violent service delivery protests that include incidents of stone throwing, burning tyres as barricades and damaging property, are set to increase throughout the country, according to figures released by Municipal IQ and reported by Times Live.

Municipal IQ found that 2012 accounted for 14% more protests than recorded in 2004. It says that most of the community anger comes from the rapid urbanisation in major metropolitan areas where poor people flock to the cities in the hope of finding work and are unable to do so says Times Live.
