Q1 food & beverages income up 6.6% y/y
Income generated by the food and beverage industry increased by 6.6% year on year (y/y) in the first quarter, data from Statistics SA (Stats SA) on Monday, 21 May 2012, showed. The main contributor was a 7.0% y/y rise in food sales.
In terms of sectors, takeaway and fast-food outlets showed a 11.6% y/y rise, while catering services gained 8.6% y/y, followed by restaurants and coffee shops, which increased their income by 3.5% y/y.
