Sactwu gives notice of protest action on 21 May

The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (Sactwu) on Tuesday, 15 May, gave the Apparel Manufacturers Association (AMSA) notice of its intention to embark on lunchtime protest action on 21 May 2012.

"This follows on AMSA having walked out of the first round of annual clothing industry wage negotiations on 18 April," Sactwu said.

The union has set a 'modest' target of 30,000 clothing workers nationally to participate in the lunchtime protest action.

"Petitions to be delivered to employers on 21 May are currently being signed by clothing workers.

"The petitions call on clothing employers to distance themselves from their AMSA negotiators' disrespectful conduct and to commit to grant clothing workers a decent wage increase," the union added.
