Raging for a revolution
On Saturday, 12 February 2005, South Africa's finest rock, punk and hip hop artists come together to stage the first in a series of concerts targeting awareness of South Africa's AIDS epidemic. 'Rage for the Revolution' will be presented in Cape Town by Levi Strauss SA and 5FM Music.
Both public and media interest are high, and the event is set to become a landmark. Final preparations are being made by the OppiKoppi production squad, and ticket sales, are being capped at 3000 tickets. All ticket revenue will be donated to the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), to stop the spread of AIDS.
"This event fits in 100% with what we are trying to achieve at 5FM. South Africa still has so many semi- or unresolved social issues and we think it is great that our musicians are getting up and doing something about this," says John Langford, 5FM station manager.
Ready D and Mr. Fat (from hip hop outfit Brasse van die Kaap), have clambered on board as the emcees for the day, and will be doing their bit at The Castle, between sets by our leading lights of the music industry.
