Extending its social economic development programme, the KWV, in partnership with the International Hotel School (IHS), is offering study assistance to previously disadvantaged individuals who aspire to receive a formal, specialised qualification in the hospitality sector - an 'earn while you learn' alternative to full-time tertiary education.
This year, 25 students have been sponsored - 11 from KwaZulu-Natal and a further seven each from Gauteng and the Western Cape respectively at the IHS campuses in Sandton, Durban and Cape Town.
Candidates are able to complete a 2- or 3-year diploma. The internship is comprised of practical training in the workplace as well as theoretical study which entails the trainees spending two or three years training in a work environment which enables them to receive on-the-job training as well as continuous assessment against a nationally recognised standard.
