South African brandies are goldThe International Wine & Spirits Challenge (IWSC) 'Spirit' award winners were announced in London on 27 July 2010, with South Africa doing exceptionally well in the 'Brandy' class, sweeping up eight of the 10 Best in Class Gold medals. ![]() Hot on the heels of its gold medal win at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) - also held in London recently - Van Ryn's 15 Year Old Fine Cask Reserve returned with a gold medal and best marks in its class. The Van Ryn's 12 Year Old Distillers Reserve, the brand's most decorated brandy in the Collection Reserve portfolio also took gold and the top score in its category. The Distell Trophy For Worldwide Brandy was awarded to KWV SA for the KWV Laborie Alambic. South African winner's circle:Gold (Best in Class)

Distell, KWV SA and E Snell - Oude Molen Distillery are the only three candidates for the African regional Distiller of the Year award. The winner of this section will go into the running for the International award, which will be announced on 17 November 2010 at the IWSC Banquet.
