Job description

AFDA is looking for a committed and dedicated Senior movie music production lecturer to lecture students about the intricacies of music production for visual media across the undergrad curriculum. The candidate needs to demonstrate a willingness to embrace AFDA’s unique pedagogy which is the basis of the interdisciplinary teaching at AFDA. There is also a strong emphasis on cultural relevance within the teaching, and the need to help the students identify and develop a distinctive African voice to their productions. In this way we hope to be able to contribute to nation building and build the foundations for a sustainable local entertainment industry.


Roles and responsibilities


A Senior Discipline Lecturer in Movie Music Production is expected to:

  • Acquire and maintain an up to date understanding of the discipline of Movie Music Production and the AFDA programme by completing the AFDA onboarding process and attending all staff training sessions.
  • Conduct student consultations.
  • Create content and lesson plans for each term. Create and manage attendance registers.
  • Deliver lectures according to termly timetables.
  • Participate in working with counterparts to ensure parity across all campuses on term outcomes and assessments.
  • Participate in all required marketing activities such as Open Days and consultations with prospective students where required.

  • Ability to manage an inventory of facilities and equipment.
  • The capacity to research and adapt to new developments in technology.

Selection criteria:
  • A minimum of an Honours degree.
  • Demonstrate established work experience in tertiary education.
  • Industry and / or knowledge of the Film/Television and / or Performance industries.
  • AFDA employs candidates in line with the Employment Equity Act and as such preference will be given to suitably qualified candidates from designated groups.
