About Operation Hunger
Operation Hunger is a non-profit organisation that has been operating as a registered NGO since 1980. Historically, Operation Hunger's activities focused on concerns about the nutritional needs of people in South Africa by helping communities to help themselves through implementing a variety of sustainable projects, based on community needs, which contained elements of development, nutrition and/or relief.

Operation Hunger's projects range from water harvesting; small garden plots; vegetable, chicken and egg laying production; soup kitchens and basic training in health and life management skills, with a view to initiating self-sustaining, income-generating community-based activities that combat malnutrition, foster healthy living and independence and engender feelings of self-worth and dignity.

Key note speaker and honorary president
Mervyn E King (SC) has chaired and been a director of several companies listed on the JSE and is probably best known as chairman of the IIRC (International Integrated Reporting Council), chairman emeritus of the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), and chairman of the King Committee on Corporate Governance in South Africa. He also serves as president of the Advertising Standards Authority, first vice-president of the Institute of Directors Southern Africa, a member of the Securities Regulation Panel, which oversees all mergers and acquisitions in the country, chairman of the Appeal Committee of the United Cricket Board and of the Automobile Association, Strate, the settlement arm of trades in equities and other instruments in South Africa, and of Brait Societé Anonyme.

In 1981 King became chairman of Operation Hunger, whose mission was to feed as many children in rural areas as possible. He retained the position for eight years, after which he became honorary life president of the organisation.

The main supporters, namely Goldrush, Hippo Roller and SPAR invite you to be the change the world needs and join us on this evening.
