Project management principles and practices in organisations

Many organisations turn to project management to help manage their daily business operations as well as individual and lone standing projects. What does such a project management process entail? How do we plan and control these projects? How must the organisation be structured to support this initiative?

Learning objectives:
The objective of the course is to empower the delegate to the following:
- Develop a business case for a project
- Initiate the project, identify stakeholders, their roles and responsibilities and develop a scope statement for a project in their own organisation
- Plan the lifecycle phase of the project and manage scope changes
- Identify work packages
- Schedule projects, allocate resources, cost and time estimations and contingencies
- Explain the benefits of project support systems, e.g. MS projects and others
- Understand and apply specialised management planning techniques, e.g. critical chain scheduling and outcomes based scoping
- Explain the structure and functions of a project support office
- Explain the role of the organisation in the successful completion of projects
- Authorise a project

Presenters:
Mr. Corro van Waveren from the Graduate School of Technology Management, University of Pretoria, is the course leader and main presenter. Expert guest lecturers are also presenting on this course.
