Play is now recognised as one of the four key factors in generating happiness and success for individuals, as well as in creating positive energy and a "learning environment" in the workplace: particularly play that involves the whole body. Yet, of these key factors, it is the most risky, most challenging, and most misunderstood for many people. It is also a key part of developing intuition - one of the vital yet still underrated aspects of successful choice-making both within and outside work. Simric will explore this subject through contextual analysis that satisfies the serious, rational mind, and of course through his own playful expressions and playful exercises for the audience to try out - moving beyond such polarities as work/play, silly/serious towards a new kind of power. The talk should leave you feeling uplifted, with a greater sense of your own innate creativity and how to use it in all situations, as well as an awareness of how important it is to be frivolous!
"We loved having Simric speak at the 8 O'Clock Club. He is a creative individual who speaks with passion, sincerity, integrity and humour. The guests thoroughly enjoyed all the exercises too." - Claire Creighton, co-ordinator, 8 O'Clock Club
"Simric is a powerful, positive and playful speaker. A consummate storyteller, he brings humour and play to his presentation in a way that delights the audience while also driving home important truths. I found his talk relatable, relevant and a revelation!" - Verity Price, Facilitator and Speaker
About our Guest Speaker:
Simric Yarrow is a 'Transformational Energy Activist' working in a range of environments with the principles of positivity and playfulness. His exploration of this concept has its roots in his Masters focusing on non-Western paradigms and forms of performance at SOAS (Europe's leading centre for non-Western studies), but has evolved into many more holistic methods since then. Beginning in 2011 he has run a series of "playshops" - Soul Theatre - opening people up gently to finding a deeper passion for life through play. From 2013 he began taking some of these techniques into work in group and individual therapeutic and coaching situations, including professional and organisational settings. He is currently lead facilitator of camps for young men ('Moving into Manhood') designed to help them find positive ways to connect with themselves and others. Over the years he has continued to supplement his understanding with new forms of knowledge and whole-body learning. He has also worked for 12 years in the creativity-based Steiner/Waldorf school system; and is a renowned poet, musician and performer. Recent clients include Nedbank, Old Mutual and the non-profit umbrella body, Community Development and Resource Association. Read More: http://simric.yolasite.com/
