Labour Relations Amendment Act changes

Since 1 January 2015 the Labour Relations Amendment Act (No.6 of 2014) (LRAA) came into effect (with the exception of s37(c)), and South African businesses will have to comply with the new obligations created in the Act.

The LRAA signals a move by government to streamline the country's labour environment and will require that South African businesses adjust the way in which they have traditionally employed and managed staff in their organizations. Time isn't on Employers' side - you will have to familiarize yourselves immediately with these amendments and take steps to comply with them. If you don't, the Department of Labour (DoL) will hit you with harsh penalties. The DoL takes a hard stance on non-compliance and could impose penalties upon your business that can run into thousands of Rands, which could have a crippling effect on your business.
