An enabling environment for corporate philanthropy: What role has B-BBEE played?
South Africa is one of the few countries in the world where corporate giving is legislated. Mauritius, Indonesia and India are other counterparts thus far. As others are looking to this as a solution, a few questions need to be asked:
• Is regulating CSI the appropriate strategy?
• Does it strengthen the quantity and quality of CSI?
• What are the impacts and the unintended consequences of regulating such activity?
• What does an enabling environment for strengthening CSI need to look like?
• How can we begin to make this happen?
