Geographic information systems with QGIS

This course provides delegates with essential theoretical and practical foundations to design a new GIS (geographic information systems) project. Important skills that will be acquired during this course include: collection of data from various sources; building an integrated GIS database; analysing the data; and communicating the results. The course not only deals with the software but participants will also be able to do a GIS project using ArcGIS.

Learning outcomes:

After completion of the course, delegates should be able to:

1) describe a GIS, its concepts and terminology
2) explain how the GIS process works
3) apply this process on a GIS project

Course content:

1. Basic concepts and terminology in a GIS;
2. The GIS process
3. GIS applications

Delivery mode of the course will be class contact sessions and web sessions.

Entry requirements:
Basic knowledge of Windows 2000.
