Introductory course in customs and excise taxesThe Introductory Course in Customs and Excise Taxes offers an opportunity for individuals with prior formal education or experience in taxation to acquire a basic knowledge of customs and excise taxes in a South African context. This course is aimed at tax professionals, entrepreneurs and public sector employees involved in international trade and/or excisable activities. Learning outcomes: After successful completion of the programme, candidates will be able to: - Understand the economic and legal environment within which customs and excise policy operates; Course content: The following topics are covered in the course: - The international customs and excise environment; Delegates will be required to complete an online assessment and obtain a final mark of 50%, to successfully complete this course. Entry requirements: This course represents three credits of the 160 required credits for the BCom (Honours) Degree in Taxation presented by the University of Pretoria (refer to www.up.ac.za for the admission requirements of this degree). This course is also a building block towards the knowledge and practical skills components of the tax professional qualification. Delegates need to have relevant practical tax-related experience; or have completed taxation as a third year course in final year of a degree or diploma completed within the last five years. Should a candidate decide to enrol for the BCom (Hons)in Taxation the candidate should comply with the minimum entry requirements. Credit transfer only valid for as long as the qualification is offered by the University of Pretoria.
