This course will prepare the attendee to align their company to minimise liabilities with respect to environmental legislation and how to interact with audit, inspection and enforcement processes. The training provides the foundation for environmental compliance, both in industry and in wildlife-related human activities. It encompasses a legal perspective on environmental compliance and enforcement, as well as implications for the regulated community
Learning outcomes:
After completing this training the attendee should be able to assess the activities of their company within the context of existing environmental legislation. The attendee should be able to perform an internal audit of the processes of their company with respect to legal compliance and to manage the liabilities of their company with respect to environmental legislation. Attendees of this training will be able to interact with the authorities during and after inspections.
Course content:
The course includes the following components:
- Introduction to environmental compliance and enforcement
- South African EIA regulations, authorisations and enforcement mechanisms
Overview of several acts including waste; biodiversity; water; mining and coastal management with the focus on liabilities; criminal law; law of evidence and criminal enforcement action as well as administrative enforcement action.
