Course participants will understand:
- the cost implication of employee dishonesty and how to manage the risk by applying corporate and ethics governance models;
- the basic ethics vocabulary and ethical decision-making models;
- the ethical duties of directors and ethical dilemmas that they may face;
- the value of ethical behaviour;
- the origin of corporate governance and how it impacts on business;
- how corporate governance evolved over the years and what future expectations are;
- the applicability of corporate governance in the South African context;
- the relationship between legislation, corporate rules and ethical imperatives; and
- the risks of poor corporate governance.
Course content:
The course content will address the following topics:
The cost implication of employee dishonesty and how to manage the risk by applying corporate and ethics-governance models;
the risks of poor corporate governance resulting in e.g. corruption and occupational fraud;
the relationship between legislation, corporate rules and ethical imperatives;
how corporate governance evolved over the years and what future expectations are;
the applicability of corporate governance in the South African legal context;
basic ethics vocabulary and ethical decision-making models;
the ethical duties of directors and ethical dilemmas that they may face; and
the long term value of ethical behaviour and good governance.
