(NCR) Debt counselling training

The National Credit Act 34 of 2005, inter alia, makes provision for the debt counselling programme to assist over-indebted consumers. The programme needs to be completed by debt counsellors who are competent and registered by the NCR. regulations.

To qualify for registration as a debt counsellor, you are required to attend a training programme approved by the NCR.

This programme has been designed and developed for the purpose of:

•Capacitating you with the background, understanding, the need for, and the process of debt counselling; and
•Training you to be competent in debt counselling and therefore be eligible to pass the examination and register with the NCR as a debt counsellor.

After completion, you should be able to:
•Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the National Credit Act;
•Identify when and how a consumer can apply for debt review
and whether a consumer is over-indebted;
•Read and interpret credit bureau reports; and
•Demonstrate an understanding of reckless credit.
•You will also be able to restructure debt, draft a consent order, monitor consumer payments, issue a clearance certificate and offer support services.
