South Africa is said to be the world's fifth-largest coal producer and the leading exporter of the commodity. South Africa's coal transportation industry is facing several challenges, the most significant being rail and road capacity as well as overloading of trucks.
Overloading does not only cause considerable damage to South Africa's road network, but it also contributes to serious road safety risks among other issues. It is a safety hazard that leads to the rapid deterioration of roads, resulting in increased maintenance and transportation costs not to mention strain on the South African economy.
Intelligence Transfer Centre will be hosting their 2nd Annual Coal Transportation Africa Summit scheduled for 19 and 20 May 2015 Indaba Hotel, Fourways. This conference will focus on positive solutions going forward as well as how industry can expand on improving rail and road capacity constraints.
