Risk mitigation strategies for public sector

This course is designed to provide public sector practitioners with current understanding of risk management. The course will enable the public service entity and its accounting officer or accounting authority, to comply with the requirements relating to the implementation and maintenance of a risk management system as set out in the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA). A comprehensive understanding of risk management best practices and applications including techniques for prevention, investigation and reporting risk will be provided.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Identify the role played by risk management in a municipality
• Interpret and apply legislation relevant to municipal risk management in South African Municipality
• Demonstrate how risk management contributes to good governance
• Develop a municipal wide risk management and reporting system
• Develop a risk management process
